YOU are responsible

Global Warming is not a local issue but a global issue

Yes, you read it right. This time my words would be direct and not sugar coated. YOU are responsible for global warming. It’s not YOU alone but many like you. It’s easy to play a blame game but difficult to swallow the truth. Is the West responsible more than anyone else? Definitely yes but YOU are no less. Incessant pollution, deforestation and what not…. I cant even think of what YOU are doing. Are YOU in your senses? Or can YOU go to any extent to satisfy your needs? YOU selfish HUMAN! It’s high time when YOU wake up man! YOU are the root cause and you got to accept the fact without contradicting it. Will YOU ever do something or sleep over it. Don’t YOU remember, “We’ve not inherited Earth from our forefathers but borrowed it from future generations”? Isn’t that enough?
After all, WHEN? JUST WHEN?
Forget about big steps take small measures atleast. Come on now! Make sure YOU are not a liability on this planet. If others don’t do anything Just DO IT and let’s ALL make it happen.

Anti Crackers Diwali

Anti Crackers DiwaliI am very proud to state that this time my Diwali was completely an anti-crackers one. It was all the more pleasing to read about the drop in sales of crackers along with the decrease in the air pollution level in many cities across the country. It clearly shows that the mindset of the people is changing.

What can be a better piece of news than this?

Yes, we are being the change and definitely we all can collectively do it. It’s not about simply reading about environment conservation and sleeping over it. It’s a matter of taking an action NOW. Little steps go a long way in determining our future…

Spending huge amounts on crackers alone is nothing to flaunt. Instead that is foolishness and nothing else. So; respect for all those who were environment friendly this year and let it be our responsibility to inspire others to refrain from anti-environment activities.

World Earth Day

Each Day Earth DayApril 22 marks World Earth Day. Earth is such a precious gift to us that we have forgotten in our selfish nature the harm we are causing to it. Hustle and Bustle of urbanization has resulted in a lot of tribulations. We are relentlessly depleting the natural resources without realizing the repercussion. Earth Day need not be celebrated only once a year but every day in our day- to- day activities. The time has gone when sermons would function. Our everyday contribution can make a lot of difference. Carbon emissions are increasing like anything and to add to human miseries the recent natural ash clouds due to the burst of Volcano in Iceland has caused inconvenience.

We not be a carborexic who are fanatics but we can do little bit like planting trees, using CFLs, paying E-bills, conserving the energy by switching off lights, etc.  More and more business organisations are opting for green offices and buildings which is a welcome step. Such techniques need to be adopted at individual as well as government level for a greener future. Simple steps can go a long way to shape the future of the coming generations because we have not inherited the Earth from our forefathers but we have borrowed it from our future generations. Everything is up to us only. It is we who can do it. The question arises that If not Earth, where? If not now, when? And if not you, who? We are the writers of our future. The power lies in our hand, so why not act now?
At this time, I am reminded of the 2 lettered 10 words that are very motivational taught to us in schools that, “If it is to be, it is up to me.” So, if it is to be globally, it has to be locally. Think globally to act locally.

Ganga Waters

Ganga as it used to BE...The holy waters of river Ganga hold a symbolic significance in the hearts of religious minded people across borders. Their religious believes pulls them from their cozy and comfortable homes to the lands of the sacred river either to perform religious practices or bathe. They forget in their minds that they are in turn polluting the river. They snatch away the purity of the river. Which religious book, priest or the like has given the sermon to pollute the river and perform the rituals? The ashes of humans give in toxic substances due to decomposition, which leads to many deadly ailments. Not only human ashes, the industrial waste are also dumped into river waters, which again causes the same effect. The debris has lead to killing of the river.

Polluted Ganga

Years ago, Coliform was found in human intestines which caused serious implications. Not only this, scientists have proven that Ganga water (in specified regions) is no longer safe to drink. This is all a result of human work. We no longer enjoy crystal clear water gushing down the stream. All we can see are huge masses of dust clouds clinging on to the air. It’s high time when we realize the impact we are having on the environment and on holy waters. Pollution is all we are contributing towards the nature. We need to minimize our impact.
The possible solution is to electrically cremate the deceased who has probably left for heavenly abode. Though religious minded people oppose this pragmatic idea but this is the best way to keep the “MOTHER earth” happy. Electric cremations will reduce the air pollution and creation of new crematorium fields by felling of trees. We talk so high of saving the earth but in reality do such acts and forget about the damage we cause to her. She is always pleading us to protect her from damage and destruction and gives evidence from natural disasters and calamities.
So, wake up! Act now! It’s now or never…… Spread awareness among masses.

Plastic Bags

Abandon PlasticsThe monotonous student’s life ensues, long lectures to save environment, conserve resources, control pollution, etc. These lectures (wise sayings) even inspire the future of tomorrow-the children, to conserve our fragile Earth. We’ve been taught since time immemorial to save Earth, not to use polythene bags, etc but how many of us actually listen and act to such things? These are just the waste sayings, which are heard from one ear and passed off from the other. What we need is pragmatic approach to reach to the apex of success.
Plastic bag is one of the things, which is extremely hazardous to every person’s life. A person uses tons of such bags; from colorful packets of clothes to the bags of bread, curd, cakes, milk and innumerable things.
Not only they choke the drains, they also imbalance the ecosystem. When these bags are thrown on land, the percolation (i.e. penetration of water) stops; plants do not grow and many useful insects also die.
When thrown in water, they do not let oxygen to enter beneath them and aquatic life is disrupted which affects the life of fishermen also. So, the whole mankind is dependant on environment, something that has given us birth. We have grown from this land and will die in this land only!
Just like states of Himachal Pradesh and Delhi have adopted very eco-friendly methods in the same way, the need of the hour is to work on such projects. The possible solutions that ought to be taken by the Government are: ban on polythene bags just like out capital has done and using jute/cotton/nylon/cloth bags.
Although the shopkeepers in Delhi are very plaintive because they said that other bags would really cost a lot for them because the prices were not affordable. The normal poly-bad just costs them about Rs.10 and other bags (such as jute bags) would cost them around Rs.50. So, the shopkeepers felt that they would be in debt and there would be more loss than the profits they earn.No Plastics Please
Even though prices are a bit high in this world of recession and inflation, the authorities must ponder over such mind-boggling issues and issue such bags on very subsidized rates to the shopkeepers. We call the Earth ‘Mother Earth’ but a very simple question arises that do we treat our mother’s as we to this Mother Earth? All the people of the world must consider the earth as their own and try to reduce the Carbon footprint as well. We all must join hands together as we did in case of terrorism to fight against those non-environment people and burn the mid night oil to make this ‘mother’ more green and clean.
Other states must also ban polythene bags and make this wonderful creation of Lord a better place to live in so that the saying “Live and Let Live” remains in the hearts of the people.

Making Oil Conservation A Way Of Life

Conserve Oil
The Almighty has bestowed the humans with a wonderful bounty, which is the earth but the humans have misused, overused and exploited this gift to the optimum just to fulfill their selfish needs without even realizing about the detrimental and lethal consequences of their impish acts. Humans were given suffice resources in abundance not only for their subsistence but also for the upliftment of their life. Man had not to even lurk in search of anything. All was ready in the environment. If we go back to the early stages of human life, we will find that all the activities were eco-friendly and there weren’t things like pollution and diseases.
The present scenario is in contrast to the proto-technology world. The world is now merely made up of pollution, diseases and vehicles. In short, we are living in ‘woes’ and miseries. When we hear the word ‘OIL’, we instantaneously think of industries and vehicles. Oil indeed plays a pivotal role in our lives. It is not only a natural resource but much more than that. Vehicles run on fuel, industrial machines and tools work by consuming fuel, which are nothing but various forms of oil. A world without oil perhaps would be a different one and the Earthlings in their weirdest dreams cannot ever think of such a world. With the evolution of time and a boom of technology, the intricate minds created machines, which would run on oil. They were created to help humans but humans misused it, leading to global ecological crises. No doubt the earning capacity of people has increased manifold yet this has led to over utilization of the precious natural resources. It has become a trend of sorts not to move out of our houses without a vehicle which runs on non-renewable resources. Walking small distances or cycling is considered as a mark of low status and so even those who want to save the earth unwillingly adopt these show-off methods just to procure a place in the society. We don’t even want to think a wee about the consequences of reckless use of fuel. Ironically, It seems that if we don’t use vehicles running on fuel we would annoy our ancestors as though they had guided us to harm our environment. We are living in the modern world with cutting edge technologies and high rise buildings yet it has never struck our polluted and ever-busy minds as to what will happen in the near future? What will happen to the next generation? Wasting oil is not only a trend but also a ritual, which is being blindly followed in every nook and corner of the World. From the juvenile minds to silvers, almost every person feels that incase they will cover small distances on foot, their status will come down to that of pauper and people will talk ill about them. True indeed! The society does speak like that but it is only because of the grandiose trend that is spreading and this can rather be called illiteracy.
The day is not far when we will face oil paucity. Till now we have heard of water or electricity paucity but our mistakes will bring out bitter results and why not say bitter ‘fruits’. We will be facing innumerable problems, our environment will be badly damaged and we will then repent. We will then have to switch on to alternatives and perhaps the present world will not be able to adjust with that world because they are just so rigid.Oil Conservation
Furthermore, we ought to make oil conservation, which not only means judicious use of oil but also using alternatives, a part of our lifestyle. It should be a part of our routine and habit. There are several ways to conserve oil such as switching off the vehicle engine if it has to stop for more than 15 seconds, walking short distances, using CNGs, travelling by public vehicles, joining Oil Conservation communities and the list ensues. The pendulum-like life of people especially students continues when they are given a long lecture to save oil, water, etc but we must understand that mere lectures and sermons wont do. What we need is a pragmatic approach to reach the apex of success, the success being a better place. The Government must also make stringent laws, which encourage the public to conserve oil.
We have to take the serious matter of Conservation of the precious Oil as our moral and ethical duty because the Earth has given us the birth not so that we degrade it but give a fruitful result to it. Earth is many-a-times referred to as Mother Earth but the present trend seems to pay disrespect to it’s own mother. A query also arises that do we treat our mother as we treat the Earth? Clearly not. It is an imperative need that we mend our ways and start taking small measures from our side because every little drop will make a big ocean. We also need to wake up from our slumber otherwise it would be too late. By saving oil, we will save everyone around and God will surely be exultant if we do such good deeds or ‘karmas’ as they are called.
Conservation of Oil at the individual level will be a small step by human but a huge step for the entire mankind and by saving oil we will keep up the spirit of live and let live.
The actual message that the nature always yells out in despair and which we always fail to listen to and understand due to our negligence ignorance is “What you are is my gift to you and what you return is your gift to me.”Oil Conservation

Our Environment

Screams Of Nature

The Almighty had given so much to humans that his greed is increasing with the evolution of time. Humans have evolved from Stone Age and Ice Age to the twentieth century and because of this, he has found out several ways of meeting his needs.
Early man started with poaching of animals, invented fire and many staggering things and the present scenario is right in front of us.
Our environment consists of biotic and abiotic components which together work together to form an ecosystem. But human has gone to such an extent that he is ready to do anything and everything to meet his escalating demands due to which the whole ecosystem is disrupted. He is cutting trees ruthlessly without even realizing that he is jeopardizing the lives of so many.
Deforestation, Pollution, Imbalance in nature, Ozone depletion, Decrease in Oxygen level and increase in CO2 level, Change in climatic pattern, GLOBAL WARMING, extinction of birds or animals (like dodo and dinosaur), habitat destruction, etc have all evolved from human’s activities and it is he who is to be blamed. The number of disasters has also increased especially deluge and earthquake because of the carelessness.
It is quite doleful to see small children suffering from asthma and many detrimental respiratory problems. The root cause of all evil is human himself only because his activities are the ones which either make or break (disrupt) the environment and the ecosystem.
The water pollution is mainly caused due to washing of clothes, bathing of cattle and the most important of all- untreated industrial waste. Because of such things, there is biomagnification i.e. there is a concentration of toxic as we go from one trophic level to the next. This salanized water is taken by the plants, which are eaten by humans or animals and become more toxic once they enter the other body (of human or animal) or the insecticides may be washed away from soil along with water and may enter a water body. After entering the water body, fish will consume it and if humans consume that fish, it will become lethal for him.
Air Pollution is the most common topic that everyone talks about. It is because of excessive emissions from vehicles, deforestation, etc.
Apart from these things, noise pollution also has an impact on our environment. Many humans suffer from cardiac arrest in many cases because there is a cacophony of sound all around because of DJs, horns, etc.
There are many solutions for this very problem like afforestation, car pool system, using alternate sources of energy, preventing overuse of pesticides and insecticides, having organic food, indulging ourselves in various campaign/ NGOs, encouraging bicycling which can very much make a difference, using CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), reducing the emissions of CFCs (Chlorofluoro Carbons), minimum usage of pesticides, etc.
When there is loud music/ noise then a person must either move out from the specific area or close his ears so that his health remains his wealth.
There are innumerable ways to protect out delicate ecosystem in order to live a healthy and a serene life. I would like to end with thought provoking lines :
If not earth, where?
If not now, when?
If not you, who?
